School Meals are Free for 2025-2026 School Year

P-CCS is happy to report that the recently approved 2025-26 State of Michigan budget includes continued funding for the  Michigan School Meals Program through the current school year, which provides free meals for all students. The passage of this budget reflects a strong commitment to student wellness, equity, and academic success, and we are thankful to our state leaders for prioritizing this essential support.

Effective immediately, all students will have access to one breakfast and one lunch daily at no charge to families.

Adult Meals: 

• Breakfast - $3.25 
• Lunch - $5.50

Extras: 

Extra servings, snacks, and a la carte items are still available for purchase using the student meals account on the MiStar Cafeteria page. 

• A la Carte - Prices Vary per item - 25-26 Price List Linked Here
• Extra Milk - $0.75

Meal Charging Policy 

The purpose of having a meal charging policy is to establish consistent clear meal account procedures throughout the district. There is a fine line between considering the fiscal integrity of the district and the solvency of the food service program while also meeting the nutritional needs of students.

Did you know?
Our district has a Local Wellness Policy designed to support student health, well-being, and academic success. This policy is guided by our Wellness Committee, a collaborative group that includes school staff, administrators, families, and community partners who help shape nutrition standards, physical activity practices, and overall wellness initiatives across the district. To remain compliant, the district regularly reviews and updates the wellness policy, evaluates how well schools are meeting its goals, and shares progress with families and the community—ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.

Looking ahead, the Wellness Committee’s focus for the upcoming year is to align our work with the CDC Model Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child framework, strengthening how health, learning, and student success are supported across the school environment.

Special Diet / Food Allergy Information

• Meal Accommodations: If your child has a food allergy or medical condition that requires a modification to the menu, signed documentation by a licensed medical professional (physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered dietitian) must indicate the following:

  • Food or allergen to be avoided

  • Explanation of how exposure to the food or allergen would affect the student

  • Food(s) to be substituted

• The required documentation is called the “Special Diet Statement” and is available at this link: Special Diet Statement Form. Completed forms can be returned to the school nurse and emailed to the registered dietitian at healthy.meals@pccsk12.com. 

The Special Diet Statement does not need to be updated annually if the information still accurately reflects the student’s needs. Update the school and appropriate staff on any changes in your child’s plan of care or diagnosis (e.g. if your child has a new allergy or outgrows an allergy).

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE EDUCATION AND NUTRITION BENEFITS APPLICATION (Formerly Free & Reduced)

We encourage ALL families to submit applications.  This helps state and federal agencies determine if our schools are eligible for extra funding and grants based on the data collected. P-CCS schools could be eligible for important funding for educational programs that our students need. Many of the grants and programs available may use percentages of eligible students as a component for consideration. These supplemental grants and programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:  

• Instructional staff (ex. Reading Interventionists, Math Tutors, Academic & Behavior Aids) 
• Teaching supplies and materials
• Counselors and Social Workers
• School Nurses 
• Professional Learning for staff 
• Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities 
• Technology 

Families that receive an approved eligibility for the Education and Nutrition Benefits are eligible for additional benefits:

• Standardized testing discounts
• Discounts for PAY TO PLAY
• College application discounts
• Discounted access for Computer WIFI
• Discounts for Chromebook Insurance  

 

RAMADAN

During the observation of Ramadan (February 18–March 19), take-home meals will be offered as an additional option for students who are fasting. This ensures equitable access to nutritious, well-balanced school meals for students who are not eating during the school day. The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act allows schools to consider offering whole and 2% milk at lunch in addition to current options. While vendor availability is being assessed, families are invited to share feedback through our Menu Feedback Form: https://forms.gle/XmUtpEpL7eQWkUQw8

BREAKFAST - FUEL YOUR DAY THE SMART WAY!

The School Breakfast Program is available to all students every weekday morning.  School breakfast makes sense - it provides 25% of your child's daily nutritional needs and meets dietary guidelines and recommendations.

Breakfast Served Daily. Check with your school for the time and location of breakfast and check our Daily Menus for offerings.
